Installation of the Month – February 2016
Interview with Bobby L.
How long was the full installation process from receiving your equipment to flipping the switch? How many people did it take?
My installation was done over a couple of months. I was in no hurry and my only deadline was December 31st for tax purposes. The only work that required a second person was the installation of the solar panels and pulling wire to the house.
Did you have any previous construction experience?
I do have construction experience which turned out to be very handy for a project like this, especially since I am an electrical contractor by trade.
What was the most confusing or difficult part of the installation?
There didn’t seem to be anything particularly confusing about the install other than the racking and Iron Ridge assisted with that situation. As far as difficult goes, I suppose laying out and installing the racking system poles would be the only thing.
Having double-digit utility rate increases the last couple of years helped make [investing in solar] a no brainer.” – Bobby L., Installation of the Month Winner
Were there any unforeseen additional parts or tools you needed?
No problem with parts or tools.
How did you choose to self-install?
I chose to self-install because I wanted to keep payback time to a minimum and was confident I could do the install. It helped that I had no pressing deadline.
What was your primary reason for adding solar to your home?
A solar install was on my bucket list of things to do which makes my upcoming retirement easier financially. Having double-digit utility rate increases the last couple of years helped make it a no brainer. I’m all electric out here.
Thanks Bobby, and congratulations on your new solar system!
